Jiwaka was formed in 2013 and is the youngest provincial government in Papua New Guinea. The new town called Kurumul was designed to connect all the villages and to act as a town centre. It will also act as a link to the southern highlands and will attract mining companies. A new town centre spanning 180ha was designed and a detailed planning report was approved through the Physical Planning Board.
