Property development got into Matt Grbcic’s blood early. As a kid, he loved going onsite with his dad. His passion for project management grew into a purpose driven career.
Then, the twist.
Matt found projects were often stressful because of traditional systems. Clients investing millions of dollars felt anxious and overwhelmed. Builders and consultants battled budgets, deadlines, red tape and huge workloads. The blame game atmosphere was unnecessarily tense and adversarial. These factors impacted the performance of projects. Projects that performed better than others did so with great project management systems but more importantly had alignment and unity within the project team.
Great performing projects had strong leadership within their project team. They had a leader that could have the difficult conversations, make the big decisions and yet at the same time unify the team.
The Impact of a strong leader unblocks projects, changes momentum, and simplifies the most complicated situations.
So Matt turned things on their head. In 2014 he founded MG Group, a project management firm with a goal of putting people and project performance first.

Our way works. In seven years we’ve successfully managed over 100 different projects in Australia and South East Asia and had close to $1 billion under management. We’ve maintained a constant flow of work, managing between $150 million to $300 million at any one time. The team has collaborated across markets including health, residential, child care, aged care, commercial, retail and not-for-profit.
We’re not the biggest company. That’s not our goal. We are the most impactful.
